Children of God.
Along with most people I once believed that we are all children of God. However, as I read The Bible a different understanding was revealed. I learned that after the disobedience of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, all children were born with a sin nature, been descendants of Adam. "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned."(Romans 5:12) Sin brought separation from God.
However, in His love our Heavenly Father chose to make a way by which the descendants of Adam could once more return to a covenant relationship with Him. Choosing Abraham who, through God's blessings, became the father of the Hebrew nation, our Heavenly Father gave the promise to send an Anointed One, Messiah, who would redeem the people of God. Judaism was the only way to God until the birth of Jesus, who is God's Anointed. Through His ministry Jesus manifested The Fathers love with the miracles of healing. By His death, and resurrection, He ushered in the New Covenant. In his Gospel, John expressed the importance for people to accep Jesus and His finished work of salvation, thus becoming children of God; "But to all who did receive him, (Jesus) who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God."( John1:12 )
O what joy there is in knowing and experiencing The Love of God. To know that you are accepted as a child of God through the love of Jesus shown by His sacrifice. Writing in the first century to believers, John also wrote; "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And this is what we are." (First John 3:1) Because I have the assurance that I am a child of God, I now also have the confidence to know there is a home awaiting where I will spend eternity in His presence. There I will see my Saviour face to face. The One who saved me by His grace.
Today, let us thank our Heavenly Father for His love.
