Sanctification-Set Apart For God
Through his many Epistles, Paul has encouraged his readers regarding their Sanctification, which is to be set apart for God - in turn - to be made holy. This infers that we who have been sanctified, have been called out from the sinful ways of this world through faith in the atonement of The Lord Jesus. Sometimes referred to as positional sanctification, it carries the meaning that, although we are not perfect, it is our position in Christ Jesus. This Is not by our own merits but through Gods Grace onto us. We are daily being made holy by the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit, who guides you and I in righteous living.
Once one has experienced Sanctification, there is a change in our lives. Aware of our previous life - of which we cannot change - we are grateful for the redemption found in Christ Jesus. The fruit of Sanctification gives you and I the desire to turn away from that life, and live for God. Instructions for the new life can be found in Paul’s letter to Titus, who was a fellow worker of the Gospel with Paul. These instructions are still relevant for you and I today because, in them Paul encourages Titus to remind believers of the mercy of God in bringing them from their previous state of sinful living, into Sanctification. He then laid out a guideline for righteous living for all believers because, we have been set apart for God.
“Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.”(Titus 3:1-8. ESV)
Today, let us give thanks for God’s blessings.
