Hearing God's Word
It is through the ministry of The Holy Spirit that we enter into the Kingdom of God. He instills within us the guarantee of our Salvation. In Romans 8, Paul teaches that unless we have the Spirit of Christ living within us, we do not belong to Christ. (Verse 9) Without the working of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life, there is no genuine experience of salvation. This is the difference between a person who has religion, and a person who has Jesus.
It was Jesus Christ who said, in John 16:13 “When He the Spirit of truth comes He will guide you into all truth.” When we are convicted by the Spirit, we become obedient to the Lord Jesus and thus, we are cleansed of our sin through the sacrifice of His blood, receiving grace and peace in abundance. This was foreshadowed in Exodus Ch. 24: 7-8: where we read, “Then he (Moses) took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.” Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
Did you notice how the people responded after hearing God’s Word? They said that they would obey. It was only after their promise to obey that the blood was applied. And so it is in our lives when we hear God’s Word. If we are convicted by the Holy Spirt after hearing the Gospel and believing that it is the Word of God, we will obey. It will bring us to a place where we will confess our sins, and also confess our need of Jesus in our lives. When we arrive at this point, the sacrifice of our Redeemer, and the shedding of His blood on the cross, is applied to our lives, we are cleansed of our sins. We will then personally experience the blessings of the riches of God's Grace.
Today, let us thank God for His living Word in our life.
