A Lepers Life
The life of a leper is filled with loneliness, and despair, living in a world where few people show any compassion. Wherever he goes the leper is required to call out “unclean, unclean.” He knows people can be extremely mean as he travels around seeing fear and loathing in their eyes. His is a lonely and painful life, no home, no wife. He has become an outcast from society, and in his despair cries out; “why me? Oh please end this misery.”
Then one day his prayer was answered when Jesus of Nazareth came his way. Knowing that the Teacher could meet his needs, the man fell at Jesus feet with the plea; “Lord if you are willing you can make me clean.” Reaching out His hand and touching the diseased man, Jesus responded; “I am willing, be clean.” (Mark 1:40-41)
The evidence of the man's healing was clearly seen by the people standing near. What a glorious day for the once outcast man, who is no longer required to call out "unclean." Here is a man who has experienced God's Grace. Now for the first time he can join the people worshipping at the Temple - he has been declared clean.
We who have confessed our need of Jesus’ Saving Grace, have also experienced that touch when we were made clean from our sin - becoming member's of God's Kingdom. We know that we can approach Jesus with confidence, because He once walked amongst us - experiencing our humanity.
Today, let us thank our Savior for His compassion.
