The Blood Of Calvary
Peter wrote encouraging believers by telling them that they: “have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.” (1 Peter 1:2) When we are convicted by the Spirit, we become obedient to the Lord Jesus. This is because the Spirit controlled mind lives in a state of grace and peace, knowing we are cleansed of our sin through the sacrifice of His blood, thereby receiving grace and peace in abundance.
This was foreshadowed in The Old Testament where we read: “Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey.” Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.” (Exodus 24:7-8) Did you notice how the people responded after hearing God’s Word? They said that they would obey.
It was only after their promise to obey that the blood was applied. So it is in your life and my live when we hear God’s Word. If we are convicted through the hearing of The Gospel message, we will obey. Consequently, we will be brought to the place where we will confess both our sins, and our need of Jesus in our lives. It is at this point the sacrifice of Jesus, and the shedding of His blood on Calvary is applied to our lives, and we are cleansed of our sins. Thereby the blessing that Peter pronounced will apply to us: “Grace and peace be yours in abundance.”
Today, let us thank The Lord for the Sacrificial Blood of Calvary.
