Give Thanks To God
When given thanks to God we are expressing our gratitude for all that Our Righteous and Holy God has done in our lives. In turn, giving thanks is an acknowledgment that we recognize who God is - our loving and enduring Creator:
“1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
2 Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.”
- Psalm 136:1-3.
In giving thanks we are also acknowledging our indebtedness to The One who, out of love for you and I, has provided Atonement and Salvation. A good example of why we should give thanks is expounded in John 3:16-21(ESV)
“16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
When we gather as a worshiping community here on earth, we are preparing for our role in the Heavenly Community, when we will be worshiping before the Throne among the great multitude from every nation, as we read in Revelation 7:9-12:
“9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”
Today, let us continually give thanks to our Righteous God and Savior.
