God Really Loves Us
As usual the dawn came to soon as the wake-up buzzer sounded, calling Jeff from a deep sleep. Just as every other working morning, it was a struggle to open his eyes in order to reach out and cancel the irritating buzzer. Begrudgingly Jeff crawled out of bed as another day’s demands brought a weariness to his soul. As he looked in the bathroom mirror, Jeff saw a weary stranger looking back. The pressure at work is taking all his energy.
The early morning traffic was slow due to a stall on the bridge leading into downtown. Consequently, he was late for work, once more rising his stress level. It was about mid morning when, without warning, the chest pains came and he blacked out. Upon recovery in the hospital, the doctor said that he had had a narrower escape and needed to change his life style. Thankful for the good outcome, both Jeff and his wife Alice listened to the Doctors instructions, promising to implement changes in their life.
Among the visitors that came was Ralf from work. Ralf was different from the other coworkers, always friendly and ready to lend a helping hand. Now here he was showing concern for Jeff and offering comfort. After a short time of small talk Ralf became more serious saying; “As you know Jeff I am a Christian, and considering the seriousness of your situation, I want to ask you where you stand with God.” At first the question surprised Jeff who gave the standard answer; “Well now, I think that I am ok there Ralf. I do believe there is a god, and really, I don’t think I am such a bad fellow. Besides we do try to go to church at Christmas with the kids.”
Ralf spoke briefly of how his life had changed when he came to faith in Jesus, and realized that God really loved him. Then, conscious of his friends condition, and not wanting to over tire him, he gave Jeff a New Testament with the recommendation that he read the Gospel of John saying; “That’s the Gospel that really spoke to my heart.” After a brief prayer for Jeff, Ralf left with the promise to visit again soon. Laying back in his bed Jeff gave serious thought to his friends words, and then - out of curiosity - picked up the New Testament.
When Alice came to visit, she was surprised to find her husband reading a small book that she did not recognize. Looking up from his reading, Jeff greeted her by saying; “Listen to this honey; For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Wow, now isn’t that amazing? God really loves us.” Jeff had found John 3:16. Their lives were about to take a significant change.
Today, let us praise God for His life changing Love shown in Jesus.
