The Life To Come.
In Luke 20:34-38, The Lord spoke of the life to come: “Jesus replied, “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection. But in the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”
As believers we are looking for the life to come, which is the end result of our faith - the return of Jesus, and the resurrection onto eternal life: “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words.” - 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18.
Romans chapter 8 teaches that even creation is waiting for the fulfillment of all things when the sons of God will be revealed, and death and decay will be no more. As we look at our world today we see injustice and unrest, however, the return of Jesus will bring grace and peace in abundance to His followers. On the other hand, to those who have refused to believe in the Salvation message of The Gospel, the coming of Christ will signify judgment. Are you looking forward to this time with anticipated joy? On the other hand, do thoughts of judgment disturb, or, even scare you?
If you are still unsure of your salvation, there is a way to ensure grace and peace in your life both now, and in the life to come. One accomplishes this by accepting the atoning sacrifice of Jesus on their behalf. Once we have repented of our sin Jesus becomes both our Lord, and Savior. Through this act of faith you will understand, and experience the truth of Jesus’s promise: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” - John 14:27.
Today, let us thank The Lord for the promise of Eternal Life.
