See What Love.
In chapter three of his letter to believers, the Apostle John emphasized the love of The Father shown onto sinful humanity through the Sacrifice of His Son. John declares that all who receive redemption through that unique sacrifice become children of God:
“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.”(1 John 3:1-3)
Most people believe that we are all children of God. However when we read The Bible, we learn of the sin of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. Consequently, as descendants of Adam, all children were born with a sin nature and therefore subject to it’s consequences:
"Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned." (Romans 5:12)
The more of The Bible one reads, the more one sees what great love our Heavenly Father has shown by making the way by which the descendants of Adam can once more return to a covenant relationship with Him. He chose Abraham to became the father of the Hebrew nation to whom He gave the promise to send an Anointed One - Messiah - who would bring redemption. Judaism was the only way to God until the birth of Jesus, who is God's Anointed. Through the ministry of Jesus, all could witness The Father’s love with the miracles of healing. By His death, and resurrection, Jesus ushered in a New Covenant - the time of Grace.
On the day Jesus returned to The Father, His final instructions to the Disciples was to spread the Gospel message to all people:
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
As a further act of love Jesus sent The Spirit, who reveals onto sinners their need of forgiveness. As new believers, the Spirit opens our understanding of God’s Love and the new incredible life in Christ as we read in Romans 8:14-17:
“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”
In Philippians 2:13-15 Paul continues to encourage you and I in our Christian walk as children of God:
“for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. 14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,”
What joy there is in experiencing The Love of God, knowing that you are accepted as a child of God through the love of Jesus shown by His sacrifice. Because we have the assurance that we are a child of God, we now also have the confidence to know there is a home awaiting where we will spend eternity in His presence. There we will see our Savior face to face. The One who saved us by His grace.
Today, let us give thanks for God’s Love in accepting us as His children.
