The Reliability Of Scripture
The cannon of Scripture was founded on the teachings delivered by God to the Prophets and Patriarchs as recorded in the Old Testament, through to the Ministry and teachings of The Lord Jesus, and writings of His disciples: “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” (Hebrews 1:1-3)
In his second letter to believers Peter emphasized the importance of the recorded prophetic message; which was the only scripture available at that time: “We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”(2 Peter 1:19-21)
To understand that Scripture is inspired by The Holy Spirit helps you and I to know that we can rely upon it’s teachings. Most modern versions of The Bible translate inspired as God-breathed: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) This verse says it all; The Bible is God’s Word. Consequently, God speaks to humanity through The Scriptures, are we listening?
Today, let us praise God for His Word.
