Some Christians are easily intimidated by other Christians who claim Noah's Flood was only local. It sounds to them like they are liberal Christians who wish to remove the supernatural element of God in the Scriptures and thus weaken the power of the Gospel.
But many years ago, back in the 70s, I read a book that was written by Bernard Ramm, "The Christian View of Science and Scripture." He was educated in both Science and Theology, and was hardly a liberal theologian.
He just became convinced that looking at the context, the Scriptures in the Flood Story were not presenting something absurd to the human intellect, but rather, something that made sense to one who actually experienced the Flood, choosing words that were more descriptive than universalistic.
I became convinced that a Local Flood alone makes sense to those who look at the science of this today. I would recommend Ramm's book if you wish to know these things in detail. I'm convinced that although God does do miracles, and can do anything, it is not likely to my mind that He would do something that actually requires the re-creation of the earth and its creatures! He made the earth to exist forever.
Psalm 78.69 He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth that he established forever.
Recently, on the internet I found the following presentation of a Local Flood. And I bring it here just for your consideration, or for those interested in the subject. I in no way mean to weaken the power of God's Word, and I in no way am offended by those who wish to retain the idea of a Universal Flood. This is just for your information. Ramm benefited me--maybe this will benefit you?
