Found Guilty
“You have been found guilty, now I must pronounce sentence.” The judge’s words brought shame to the prisoner standing in the dock. For his crime he must now pay, knowing that his life will no longer be the same. Sitting in the court, his parents are softly weeping. As the prisoner is lead away they ask: “Where did we go wrong?” In the meantime they must be content with the knowledge they will see him on visiting days.
He is assigned a number, then escorted to a cell which will be his new home. He soon finds himself counting the hours. The long hours slowly become days, and the days eventually turn into weeks. Time weights heavy on an otherwise active young man; time to reflect and regret his crime. If only he could have a second chance he would make better choices.
One day he picked up a Bible left on a table in the cafeteria. Flipping through the pages began to read the promise of forgiveness and a new life. This brought the realization that It’s time to seek help. When the opportunity came, he spoke to the Chaplin who gave him hope. The Chaplain assured him there is forgiveness if you seek, explaining that Jesus has provided the way. The prisoners response is: “But if I become a believer in here, will I be seen as weak?”
Pride can be it's own prison, keeping you and I from true freedom. No matter what the prison, faith in Jesus will bring forgiveness; resulting in peace and freedom. We each must make the right choice, confessing our need to God. Do not listen to the accusers voice, instead, choose to experience the freedom of a forgiven life.
Today, let us thank our Heavenly Father for the gift of new life.
