This Is Eternal Life
In His prayer to His Father, as recorded in chapter 17 of John's Gospel, Jesus says: "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." (Verse 3) This statement is very profound - coming from The Son of God. In it Jesus declares that we can have a personal knowledge of the living God here and now. Jesus states that eternal life begins with the knowledge of The Father as the only true God. Along with the true understanding of The Father, will come a revelation of who The Son is - as revealed in Scripture.
Our Heavenly Father gave The Scriptures as a record of His revelation of Himself to humanity. The opening words of the opening chapter has the statement: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." This verse proclaims how our God existed before time as we know it - "In the beginning God," the verse goes on to teach that He is The Creator.
In chapter one of the Gospel of John we read that Jesus existed with the Father in the beginning, and that He was involved in the creation of our world: "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." (Verse 3). When Jesus was born, one of His titles was: "Immanuel (which means "God with us")" (Matthew 1:23). Can you comprehend this truth? God came into creation in order to bring salvation for everyone who, by faith, accepts His sacrifice on their behalf.
Paul writers of Jesus' divinity: "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form" (Colossians 2:9). Jesus was God in the flesh, showing love, and through His sacrificial death offering forgiveness. Our Heavenly Father has made the way for you and I to spend eternity with Him. Our experience of eternity can start here and now by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We will then known The One True God, and His forgiveness, which is His love offered to humanity.
Today, let us give all praise to our God for His love shown to humanity.
