Placing Our Trust In Jesus.
When we place our trust in Jesus’ sacrificial death upon the cross as the atonement for our sins, we become free from the power of sin which brings spiritual death. This trust leads to life eternal, translating as living eternally in Heaven with our God and Savior: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."(Romans 6:23)
What does it take to come to the place in our lives when we place our trust in Jesus? First, according to Scripture, a person needs to admit that they are a sinner. (Romans 10:9) Until we have reached that point we will not recognize our need for a Savior. The Bible says: “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). According to The Bible, those who acknowledge that they are sinners, and who repent of their sins, and receive him as Savior and Lord, become “born again” (John 3:3) - not physically, but spiritually.
The reality of our salvation is not dependant on our feelings, but rather on the promise of the Savior who said: “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life” (John 5:24). On the other hand, to reject Jesus, or to misunderstand Him, is to continue to live in the darkness of not knowing the true Light. In chapter 3 of his Gospel, John put it this way: "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil." (verses 18-19)
Scripture states that it is God, not humanity, who sought redemption from sin on our behalf. As sinful members of the human race, we are incapable of approaching a Holy God. Consequently, He has reached down as a loving Heavenly Father to bring redemption by sending His Son, who bore our sin upon the cross (John 3:16-17). In turn, Jesus sent the Spirit, who speaks to peoples heart's, calling sinners to see their need of the cross (John 16:13). What a wonderful God, what a wonderful Savior.
Today, let us continually give thanks for Jesus.
