Divine Grace
The Hebrew word for Grace is Chesed which has the meaning; steadfast love and loving kindness. This is the understanding of covenant love. The other Hebrew word sometimes used is Chen which means; total understanding and favor, as from a superior to an inferior. In other words from God to man, or man to man, but never from man to God. Therefore, Divine Grace is the unmerited favor of God, it is not something that we can earn, for it is a gift from God. It is our Heavenly Father showing His love to an undeserving people. As an example; God chose to rescue the Hebrew’s from slavery in Egypt out of love because He is a covenant keeping God. The result of receiving Divine Grace is to experience forgiveness, by which we are regenerated, leading to repentance and salvation. By experiencing Gods Divine Grace we have the confidence to know that He will hear our every prayer because, He is our refuge as the Psalms proclaim: “But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You. For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.”(Psalms 5:11-12)
In the New Testament Divine Grace is shown in the Gospels, where the Good News is proclaimed. Jesus came to seek and save the lost as proclaimed in John 1:14-18: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ” And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.”
By Gods Grace, we can become righteous through faith in the sacrifice of Jesus as Romans 3:21-26 teaches: "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Paul continues to emphasize that It is through Divine Grace alone that we are saved in Ephesians 2:4-9: “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
This truth became alive for me when I came to the understand that God loved me, and was offering forgiveness of my sin through the sacrifice of Jesus upon the cross. When, by Grace I confessed my need of His Salvation, true peace come into my life. Although I had done nothing to deserve it, I had personally experienced God's love. From that time on I continue to give "praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves." (Ephesians 1:6)
Today, let us praise Our God for Divine Grace.
