By The Grace Of God
One of the first persecutors of the early Church was one known as Saul of Tarsus. While on a journey to Damascus with the intent of arresting followers of Jesus, he had a vision which changed his life completely which is recorded in Acts chapter 9. Saul the persecuted of the Church, became Paul the believer who would himself experience persecution because of his new faith. This was the man who became one of the greatest missionary’s in the early days of Christianity. He was responsible for starting many Churches, and would keep in contact with those new believers by writing letters of instructions which have been preserved for our benefit in The New Testament.
Writing about his changed life in 1 Corinthians 15:10, Paul wrote: “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.” The Grace of which Paul writes is the unmerited favour of God. Paul understood that, as sinful people we are all outside of God’s favour, and recognized that he had been called into a new life which offered salvation through faith in Jesus, the very faith that he had tried to wipe out.
Because Paul understood how he was called out of unbelief he was able to write these words which are still relevant for you and I today: “Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation — if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.” (Colossians 1:21-23)
The Gospel of Grace is the only spiritual truth proclaimed to one and all throughout the world. It gives hope not only in this life, but also in the life to come. Because Jesus conquered death by rising from the tomb, you and I have an assurance of eternal life, providing, by the Grace of God, we are among the ones who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Today, let us thank our Heavenly Father for His Grace.
