John’s Good News
During these times that we have all been experiencing, it is refreshing to know that there is good news. I first came across this good news some years ago during my search for truth, when I was introduced to the Gospel of John. Upon prayerfully reading this inspired piece of Scripture my life was changed forever. Through reading this Gospel I began to believe in the Jesus of The Bible. The Jesus who was God in the flesh, and who loved each one of us to the extent of laying down His life in order that you and I can have the opportunity of choosing to follow Him. Thereby, receive forgiveness and the joy of knowing that we will spend eternity with Him.
The word Gospel means good news. Therefore, the title The Gospel of John, can also read; The Good News according to John. The Apostle John has good news that he wants to share with all who will listen. This good news is incredible. John wants everyone to know that God came to earth in the person of Jesus Christ, and that he, John, was an eyewitness to the event. John opens his message by introducing his subject - Jesus - as The Word, this is one of many Jewish ways of referring to God. He tells how Jesus existed before time began. Also that Jesus created the universe and all that it contains: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.”
Because John was a member of Jesus' inner circle, he is able to record much of the teachings of Jesus for our understanding of who Jesus claimed to be, such as:
"The Father and I are one."
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."
John was also an eyewitness to the miracles that prove the Divinity of Jesus such as;
giving sight to one born blind and raising the dead as in the raising of Lazarus.
And so, it was with conviction that he wrote:
"No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known."
The best known verse’s of John’s good news is:
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” However, John did not hide the fact that Jesus was rejected by most of the people, which of course is still the case today.
Notwithstanding, John also wrote:
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
The resurrection of The Lord Jesus is evidence that Our Heavenly Father has accepted His atoning sacrifice for sin, and is also a proof of life after death. Consequently, John records this wonderful promise from Jesus while speaking to His disciples, and at the same time, thinking of all the people in the future that would turn to Him for Salvation:
"Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
Today, let us praise God for The Good News.
