Convicted By The Holy Spirit
According to The Bible, the ministry of The Holy Spirit is crucial in the plan of Salvation. As an example it was Jesus who stated the importance of The Spirit in drawing you and I into the New Life: “Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”(John 3:5-8. ESV)
In Ephesians Chapter One verses 13 & 14, Paul states, “In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” These scriptures show that it is through the ministry of The Holy Spirit that we enter into the Kingdom of God. He instills within us the guarantee of our Salvation. In Romans 8, Paul teaches that unless we have the Spirit of Christ living within us, we do not belong to Christ (Verse 9) Without the working of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life, there is no genuine experience of salvation. This is the difference between a person who has religion, and a person who has Jesus.
Jesus further explained: “When He the Spirit of truth comes He will guide you into all truth.” (John 16:13) Once we are convicted by the Holy Spirit, we become obedient to the Lord Jesus and thereby, we are cleansed of our sin through the sacrifice of His blood, receiving grace and peace in abundance. This was foreshadowed in Exodus 24: 7-8 where we read: “Then he (Moses) took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.” Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
Did you notice how the people responded after hearing God’s Word? They said that they would obey. It was only after their promise to obey that the blood was applied. And so it is in our lives when we are convicted by the Holy Spirt after hearing the Gospel message and believing that it is the Word of God - we will obey. It will bring each one to a place where we will confess our sins, and also confess our need of Jesus in our lives. Arriving at this point, the Atoning Blood Sacrifice of our Redeemer upon the cross is applied to our lives, whereupon, we are cleansed of our sins. Thereafter, through the ministry of The Holy Spirit in our lives, we will personally experience the blessings of the riches of God's Grace.
Today, let us give praise for the ministry of The Holy Spirit in our lives.
