The Wise And The Foolish
At the time of writing, new terminology’s have become part of our everyday speech such as; social distancing, wash your hands, and wear a mask. This is because the world is in the grip of the coronavirus pandemic. For many it feels as if they are living in a world of darkness without hope. However, Scripture has always offered hope to people who live in a place of darkness such as when it states: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.” (Isaiah 9:2) This is restated in Matthew 4:12-17, where it is declared that the prophecy is speaking of Jesus and His ministry. In John 8:12, Jesus proclaims that He is The Light that has come into the world when He said: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
For the wise among us who have chosen to live in the light there is hope, and the darkness cannot overwhelm them. It matters not what pandemic or storm affects our lives, we have the assurance that Jesus will always be there brining comfort and peace. Although The Gospel of Jesus has been proclaimed worldwide, sadly many have not listened to its claims of forgiveness, and foolishly continue to live without the hope of redemption that is offered through our Savior. Jesus warns that we must consider carefully what we have heard when hearing The Gospel because, it is a serious thing to take lightly it’s message. The more truth that we accept and believe, the more truth we will be given: "Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. For to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away." (Mark 4:24-25)
As an example of the different responses between the wise and the foolish people who hear The Gospel message, Jesus said this: “As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.” (Luke 6:47-49) So it is today with the coronavirus, we who were wise and have turned to Jesus have been redeemed, and are living in The Light. We are the ones who have built our lives on a solid rock, consequently although the storm rages around us, we have both peace and hope.
Today, let us give thanks for the hope that is in Jesus.
