Encouragement From The Psalms
When we require encouragement during a time where we begin to feel alone, or in despair such as this time of COVID-19, we should turn to the psalms, there we will find many passages of uplifting verses such as: “The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” (Psalms 118:14) When we read passages such as this, we are encouraged to remember that The Lord is still there bringing redemption from loneliness and despair. Such passages help you and I to understand that we have One who is our strength and defender even when we feel defeated, bringing hope and blessings into our day.
Psalm 18:1-3 is another great encouragement: “I love you, LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies.” This is an amazing statement from David who wrote this Psalm after he had been delivered from great danger. Although you and I do not face the same dangers as King David we can experience many times of great stress during this pandemic, which can sometimes feel dangerous and scary. It is in such times that we should remember the example of how David clearly stated it was The Lord to whom he turned in his time of need.
When like David, we can truthfully proclaim: “The Lord is my rock,” we will always have the faith to trust in His care and protection. The Lord will always be our stronghold and place of refuge, worthy of all our worship and praise. When we have arrived at this place of faith and trust, we can naturally praise our God in the way that Psalm 73:24-26 states: “You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Amen.
Today, let us continue to trust in our God’s protection and redemption.
