Experiencing God In COVID-19
When it comes to acknowledging God, our world has two very different types of people. On the one hand there are - and have always been - those who question if there is a God. It is they who skeptically ask where is He when they, or the world, experience severe circumstances. On the other hand, many more have given testimony of how the presence of God sustained them during the storm’s in their lives. So why do some experience God, whilst many more do not? It is a question of who accepts the testimony of God. That God reaches out to us in our deepest needs is recorded in both the Hebrew and the Christian Scriptures. They both give many examples of God coming to the aid of people in difficult circumstances. One of the great examples is the Exodus of the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt, into the promised land.
How God truly cares was demonstrated when the love of our Heavenly Father for humankind was shown in the birth, life, and atonement of Jesus Christ: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”(John 3:16) By coming into our world, and living among us Jesus both saw, and also experienced the struggles of life. With a heart of compassion He invited: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Mathew 11:28-30)
Yes, COVID-19 is indeed scary and the list of victims grows daily with many families loosing loved ones. So where is God in COVID-19? He is, and always has been, just a prayer away. For many this sounds corny, even trite. If that is a person’s attitude, how then do they expect to see the evidence of God reaching out to help? On the other hand, for those of us who have a personal knowledge of the Loving God, we experience His peace and comfort in our daily life, as well as during the pandemic. We are mindful of the promise of Jesus when He said: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)
If you have not experienced this peace, now is a perfect time to reach out to God. He has sent His Son Jesus in order to redeem humankind onto Himself. When Jesus died on Calvary, He did so in order to atone for your sin, and now offers you a new life where you will experience forgiveness and peace, even during this scary time of COVID-19. For over two thousand years, The Lord Jesus has been faithful. His followers have endured many trials, but through it all they have experienced the peace that only He, as the Prince of Peace can give. A peace that is both for, and beyond this life, because, it is an assurance of the life that will endure for eternity.
Today, let us praise God for His sustaining presence during COVID-19.
