There Is A Shepherd Who Cares.
As Covid-19 spreads you and I need to keep our eyes on The Lord who is our Shepherd and comforter as Psalm 23:1-3 states:"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake." These verses have been used as words of comfort for over two thousand years. In them we hear the God of Love speaking to His people, promising to lead and care for them. Our Heavenly Father will always be there in our time of need, bringing us into a place of safety and peace.
For the Christian, these verses are even more beautiful as we remember the words of Jesus when He announced in John 10:11: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." When comparing Psalm 23 and John Chapter 10 we can see that The Good Shepherd cares about us in both our daily life, as also our spiritual live. For Jesus came into our world to show the way to The Father, and to lay down His life in order that His sheep can receive forgiveness and spend eternity with Him. What a wonderful loving God we have.
John 3:16 proclaims: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." These words of John are among the best known, and best loved in the Bible. The great reformer Martin Luther referred to the verse as "the small Gospel." One could say that this verse is the Gospel in a nutshell.
The verse starts by God declaring His love: “For God so loved the world." The next portion of John 3:16 shows how deep God's love is for humanity: "He gave his one and only Son." These are familiar words to all Bible believing Christians. Words that can lose the impact of their meaning when heard repeatedly without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is only through the Holy Spirit that we can understand the impact of the words as recorded by John: "He gave his one and only Son." This is Divine Love. Love that was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice in order that you and I have the opportunity to spend eternity in His presence as the last portion declares: "whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Today, let us thank our God for His love shown through His Son.
