God Is Our Refuge
In times such as this, we need to have someone strong that we can turn to as a refuge where we can feel safe. Our Heavenly Father is that one as Psalm 46:1 states: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." Is it possible for you and I to utter these words with total confidence today? Can we say that God is our complete source of strength, whether it be physical, emotional or spiritual? When a pandemic strikes it is only natural to panic and fret. It becomes easy to forget that we have a loving Father in God, whom we can turn to in prayer. Scripture reminds us by stating: “You are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble" (Psalm 59:16).
The picture of God as our fortress takes us back to the time when people living in rural areas fled to the fortress for safety. Built of solid rock it was a safe refuge in times of danger. In this life, we will all experience trials of one kind or another. However, be assured of this: our Heavenly Father is ever ready to pour out His blessings upon His children. In the midst of the greatest crisis, you and I can experience God's peace when we rely on Him as our refuge and strength as Psalm 55:22 promises: “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you."
Do you know God as your refuge and strength? Have you gone to Him for the greatest miracle that can be experienced in any ones’s life? I refer to the new birth, when a sinner receives forgiveness. It is when a person is in this state of forgiveness that we can truly "rejoice in the Lord always" (Philippians 4:4). It is after experiencing salvation, and acknowledging Jesus as our Savior, that we become children of the Most High God, and receive His peace in our daily lives.
Today, let us rejoice in the Lord as our refuge and strength.
