During These Days Of Covid-19
During these days of Covid-19 with so many people becoming sick and dying, many ask where is God? The pandemic has changed our world with all of the new restrictions. Lockdowns bring even more pressures especially for families who cannot visit loved ones in senior homes. Again the question where is God?
The Christian Scriptures speak to this for all who truly wish to understand where He is in the sufferings of our world. It encourages you and I to seek after Him not only during a time of crisis, but for our every day experience.
The Psalms are a great place to start our search. As an example Psalm 46 verse 10 encourages: "Be still, and know that I am God." According to this instruction from God, there is a way in which we can know Him. Through knowing Our Heavenly Father, we experience His forgiveness, peace and love. Unless we learn to turn off the world for a short while, and spend that precious time with our God, we will not know the peace of His presence in our life.
He says to each one: "Be still, and know that I am God." So, how can we know Him? For sinful humanity, to know God in the truest sense, is impossible. However, the Good News is that Our Heavenly Father has made a way; He sent His Son. In John 14:1, Jesus said, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me." According to this verse, to believe in Jesus is to believe in the God of The Bible. It is this belief that separates Christians from the world.
In verses 6 & 7 of the same chapter Jesus also said: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." These recorded verses of Scripture informers you and I that we can have a personal knowledge of Jesus. In knowing Him we realise that He came to reveal The Father unto us.
Growing in the knowledge of Jesus, we also grow in our knowledge of The One True God. No longer is God, somewhere up there - out of sight - out of reach, the man upstairs. He is approachable and knowable because, He has been revealed to us in the person of Jesus Christ. Therefore, to know Jesus, is to know The Father and we can experience His comfort in times of crisis.
Today, let us follow God's instructions; "Be still, and know that I am God."
