Jesus The Passover Lamb
Isaiah 53:7 "He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth." In this prophecy, we see how Messiah will be the Passover lamb, He will be the ultimate substitution sacrifice not only for the Jewish people but for all of humankind.
Situated outside the town of Bethlehem was the Migdal Eder, “the tower of the flock,” where the fields of Bethlehem were pasture for the sheep that would be sent to the Temple for sacrifice. As we know, Jesus the Messiah was born in Bethlehem, and the first people told of his birth were shepherds who were keeping watch over the sheep that would be used in temple sacrifices. In the Gospel of John 1:29, John the Baptist spoke of Jesus as "the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world."
Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples before His arrest. During the meal He established the New Covenant in His blood as we read in Mark 14:22-25; "While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take it; this is my body." Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it. "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many," he said to them. "Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God." As Jesus died upon the cross, He proclaimed “it is finished” (John 19:30). The Lamb of God has been slain, there is no other sacrifice for sin.
As The Passover Lamb, Jesus now resides in Heaven where He receives honor and glory as stated in Revelation 5:12; "In a loud voice they were saying: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!"
Today, let us praise Jesus for His sacrifice.
