Jesus’s Promise Of The Holy Spirit
The means of successfully living the Christian life is through The Holy Spirit. It was Jesus who promised to send The Spirit to His followers in John 14:15-17: “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”
There are many who consider themselves religious, and may attend Church services, however, according to the teaching of the Bible, they are not Christians unless they are guided by The Holy Spirit as Paul explains in Romans 8:7-9: "The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ."
This statement of Paul is very powerful. In these verse’s Paul lays out the difference between people who are of the world, and those who are born again followers of Jesus Christ. Unless The Holy Spirit has moved upon our heart, we will not come to Jesus, because it is The Spirit that draws and convicts you and I of our need of a Savior. He does this by revealing our sinful condition. Without The Holy Spirit we are spiritually blind because, the sinful nature is in opposition to God's Law, it desires it's own pleasure, not God’s will.
Paul went on to explain further in 1 Corinthians 2:14 "The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit." When we are surrendered to the leading of The Holy Spirit, and approach God with a humble and a contrite heart, we will worship Him in spirit, and in truth because, we are now following God’s way and not mans way. Jesus said: "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth." (John 4:24)
Today, let us thank our Heavenly Father for the guidance of The Holy Spirit.
