God Speaks
There is a book in the New Testament section of The Bible known as Hebrews which begins with this statement: “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.” There are many places in the Old Testament where we can read of the prophets speaking on behalf of God, foretelling the coming of an Anointed One.
in chapter 7 of Isaiah, the prophet spoke of the virgin birth of The Anointed One when he wrote: “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” The word Immanuel means God with us. Isaiah also made amazing claims concerning this child when he wrote in chapter 9: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” It was Micah who foretold that The Anointed One would be born in Bethlehem.
In the New Testament an angel of The Lord came to a virgin by the name of Mary telling her that she was chosen by God to give birth to The Anointed One, saying that “He will be great and will be called the Son of The Most High.”(Luke 1:32) When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, a Host of God’s angels announced to the shepherds that Messiah - The Anointed One - was born.
When Jesus began His ministry, He announced: “- The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:15) So how can we enter God’s Kingdom? When asked this question in John chapter 3, Jesus answered: “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” In other words; you and I require a spiritual re-birth. This can only be accomplished by accepting the Atonement of Jesus’ sacrifice on our behalf, thus entering God’s Kingdom.
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus made it clear that he came to die for the sin of humanity. Accordingly, he became our Redeemer by atoning for our sin. It is impossible for a sinful person to atone for his or her own sin, only the sinless Son of God can accomplish this. The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus has paid the price for our sin allowing you and I to accept His sacrifice on our behalf, thereby becoming born again. Salvation is for those who believe. Throughout the Scriptures God has spoken, are we listening?
Today, let us listen to God’s wonderful promises.
