The Greatest Healing
The one fact that this pandemic has taught us is that humanity’s health needs have not changed down through history. However, the way that these needs are met depends upon the place and time in history that one lives. In our present time in history, when you and I have medical concerns, we can make an appointment with a doctor, attend a medical centre, or hospital, in order to have our health needs attended too. However, it is not so in all parts of the world, nor in days gone by. As an example, can you imagine the needs among the people of Judea during the time of Jesus?
In His time on earth, The Son of God reacher out to a hurting world, and the reports of His many healings abound throughout the Gospels: “And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.” (Luke 6:17-19)
Friends, or family members carried those who were unable to walk, a loving hand led the blind. Even the demons were subject to The Son of God as He ordered them to leave tormented people. Children were pushed forward through the throng of people by parents in the hope that Jesus would touch them; "for power came out from him and healed them all."
Without Jesus of Nazareth, many people’s lives would have been different. The widow of Nain would have buried her only son, and then gone on to live a life of loneliness and poverty, instead of receiving him back alive. (Luke 7:11-17) The man with leprosy would not have heard the life changing words "Be clean.(Mark 1:41) The sister's Mary and Martha, would have had to survive without their brother Lazarus - who was their only support - instead of witnessing the miracle of seeing him coming out of his tomb alive at the command of Jesus. (John chapter 11) Today, you and I can still turn to Jesus in our time of need, remembering that He is only a prayer away: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”(John 14:27)
All who have received salvation through Jesus have received the Greatest Healing that there is. All health healings are temporary because, our human live is only temporary. However, Salvation is the Eternal Gift of God’s love for you and I as explained in John 3:16-17: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
Today, let us thank our God for His wonderful gift.
