The Spirit Helps Our Choosing
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”(John 14:26) An Advocate is a counsellor or champion, the one who stands beside. In the above verse, Jesus is stating that The Holy Spirit will be a teacher for you and I in our Christian walk. Because Adam and Eve had listened to the serpent and chose to disobey God by eating the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, our Heavenly Father did not desire for them to eat of the tree of life and live for eternity in the state of sin without redemption. Genesis 3:22: “And the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
Because Almighty God did not desire any to be eternally lost, He sent a Savior as Luke 19:10 states: “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” When Jesus carried His cross up Calvary's hill, it was our Heavenly Father’s way of showing His love for lost humanity by offering Redemption through His Son: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”(John 3:16-18)
It is through the prompting of The Holy Spirit, who is given to you and I as a guide - not as a force to change us - according to Jesus in John 16:12-15: “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.” And so, it is critical that you and I listen to The Spirit as He guides us into The Truth concerning Jesus, as He leads us in our spiritual walk.
Today, let us praise Our Heavenly Father for The Holy Spirit.
