Until The Holy Spirit Moved
Without The Holy Spirit, we cannot come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The Spirit does this by revealing onto you and I, our sinful condition thereby, our need of a Savior. In First Corinthians 2:14 Paul writes: “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.” According to the teaching of Romans 8:9, The Holy Spirit has to do this work in our heart for you and I to be saved: “And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.”
There are numerous members of religious organizations who do not realize that they are not worshipping God in the way He has instructed in Scripture. For many years I also consider myself religious without a knowledge of Scripture. In the Church that I was brought up, we were taught that our church was the only right one. We were not to attend services at any other church, unless it was a wedding or a funeral. If we did attend one of these services, we were not to join in any of the prayers. Consequently, been a good son of the church I avoided other churches.
It was not until The Holy Spirit moved upon my heart that I felt the freedom to worship in other churches. By God’s Grace, I now understand that The Church of Jesus Christ is not a denomination, but the worldwide body of people who believe in The Lordship of Jesus Christ, and who are Born Again of The Holy Spirit. They can be from any denomination who, having recognizing their sinful condition, came to the foot of The Cross of Jesus, confessed their sins and received forgiveness through the shed blood of The Lamb of God.
Unless we know the Jesus of The Bible, we cannot know God as Jesus Himself proclaimed in John 14:6-7: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” The world is full of false impressions of Jesus Christ therefore, if our knowledge of Him is not in line with The Revealed Word of God, then we have the wrong Jesus.
Jesus also said that He would send The Holy Spirit, who would be the revealer of spiritual truth: “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:13-15)
When we come with a humble heart, and are surrendered to The Holy Spirit, then we can worship God in spirit and truth, because we are now following God’s way and not mans way. God has revealed His truth in The Bible which was inspired by The Holy Spirit. Who better to teach God’s Truth, than the One that inspired the human writers? “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
It was through reading The Bible that I came to a knowledge of The Truth. That is God’s Truth. There are many claims to truth, so how can we know that we are not been deceived? Any one who seriously seeks God’s Truth will find it because, God’s inspired truth is found in the pages of Scripture which has been preserved for us down through the years.
Once I had accepted that The Bible was The Word of God. I read it morning, noon and night. I devoured it. It was the most exciting book that I had ever read. It became alive to me. It was a reema to my soul. God spoke to me through the writings - under the inspiration of The Holy Spirit - that men had penned thousands of years ago.
Some times, I would weep reading of Jesus and His love, because I had now been introduced to The Jesus of Scripture. A Jesus that I had not known. The Jesus who loved me to such an extent, that He died for my sins, even though I would not be born for another two thousand years.
Confessing my sin, I called upon The Name of Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. My world was changed. I was born again. Filled with The Holy Spirit I could now understand spiritual truth. Once I was blind, now I can see. God is my Father, and Heaven is my future home.
Today, let us thank our Heavenly Father for the gift of The Holy Spirit.
