The Supremacy Of Our Savior
There are many who believe that Jesus Christ was merely a good man who accomplished great deeds during his life. However, Scripture proclaims His Supremacy over all things, most especially in Paul’s letter to the Colossians. It begins by showing the supremacy of Jesus over creation. Nonetheless - even though He created all things - Jesus came among us in order that we could spend eternity with Him. Our Creator became our Savior.
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross”(Colossians 1:15-20)
To know that Jesus created all things in Heaven and on earth, is to know that He is no ordinary person who once lived and did good things during His life. No. For to acknowledge that Jesus created all things is to acknowledge that He is God, for only God is The Creator. In the interduction to his Gospel, John refers to Jesus as The Word of God when he wrote: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”(John 1:1-5)
No man is the head of the Church, for the Church is the body of believers, and Jesus is the supreme head. He is the firstborn from among the dead. All who have died are still awaiting the resurrection, however, death could not hold The Lord of all. When He arose it was once and for all time. For the fullness of God dwelt within Jesus. This was the One who went to the cross for you and I. Jesus carried out God’s supreme act of love. We are no longer our own because, we have been translated into the new kingdom. We serve a new King - Jesus - our Supreme Lord and Savior.
Today, let us praise The Father for Jesus.
