The Ministry Of Jesus Of Nazareth
The ministry of Jesus of Nazareth lasted for 3 years, and in that time Jesus and His disciples worked many great wonders among the people as they preached concerning The Kingdom of Heaven. However, in spite of all the miraculous healings and preaching the message of hope, the ministry of Jesus was not always received well. Many of the people were eager to once more hear from God, because there had not been a prophet in Israel from the time of Malachi to John the Baptist, which was 400 years. While others were still confused, and harboured doubts concerning who Jesus was.
In Luke 9:18-22 we read: “Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.” Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone. And he said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”
John 12:42-46 describes how even the Jewish elders were divided concerning Jesus: “Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God. Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.”
Even though we have historical evidence to the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth, the human race is still divided in their belief concerning Him. To some He was a great prophet. To others Jesus was a good and wise man who gave us the golden rule: “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” However, this is not who He showed Himself to be through His life and ministry for, how can even a good man rise from the dead? To all of us who accept the evidence of The Gospel accounts, Jesus is The Son of God who came to bring eternal life for sinners. For this we are both humbly, and eternally grateful.
Today, let us praise The Father for The Son.
