He Has Rescued Us
To be rescued is to imply that one was a captive, and in need of saving. I wonder how many of us would admit that there was a time in our lives when we were in need of rescuing. After all, the life that we lived before coming to Christ was a regular worldly life, not much different from our friends and neighbors. We were completely oblivious to our spiritual condition. Just living life, looking out for number one with the attitude of; “I can take care of myself, it’s my life I shall live it as I want.”
This then begs the question, why were we so different back there? The answer, according to Scripture, is that we were part of the kingdom of darkness. However, you will say: “I was not aware that I was part of any kingdom of darkness.” That is precisely the way Satan, the prince of darkness, works. He is a master at keeping people deluded concerning their spiritual condition. The Gospel describes him as the father of lies when Jesus said of him: “He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8: 44)
So how do we leave the dominion of darkness and live in the kingdom of light? Firstly we need to come to the knowledge that there are two spiritual kingdoms, and moreover, that we are in the wrong kingdom. This can only be accomplished through God’s Grace. Only God can enlighten a sinner to his, or her spiritual need. God’s Grace awakens us to our spiritual condition - sinners in need of forgiveness.
This work of God is accomplished through The Holy Spirit, who will work through a believer sharing The Gospel message. We see this when the Lord spoke to Paul, appointing him as his servant to go and proclaim the Gospel: “I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.” (Acts 26:17-18) It is by Grace that God, in His mercy delivers us from the kingdom of darkness through the message of The Gospel; which is Good News.
Today, let us praise God for Grace, and The Gospel Message.
