Accepting God’s Gift
One of the more well know prophets in the Old Testament is Isaiah who lived 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. Isaiah wrote concerning the suffering of The Messiah in Chapter 53 of the book bearing his name: "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." Believers in Jesus Christ know that He - Jesus - is that Messiah, for both the title Messiah, and Christ have the root meaning; Anointed One. Jesus fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy by the manner of His death.
As we go through our daily lives, changes come in so many ways. With the loss of loved ones and friends one is brought to the place where we take stock spiritually. It is at such a time we should ask ourself; "is my faith built on solid rock?" Followed by; "am I ready to stand before The Lord?" These inquiries leads one to the all important question; "when I die will my sins be forgiven or, must I face eternal separation from God?" The very thought of what that entails makes me shudder. Seeking assurance of my own eternal future, brought me to the point where I turned to Jesus and accepted His offer of Redemption. I was at the place where I was convicted that Our Heavenly Father has provided all that is required for salvation - the Sacrifice of His Son.
The Christian life is one full of hope and forgiveness, we have been blessed to live with the knowledge that we have a Redeemer who went to the cross on our behalf, and was pierced for our transgressions. Can you grasp this truth? Have you accepted God’s gift? The gift of forgiveness, as the verse says; "the punishment that brought us peace was on him." In other words; Jesus took the punishment that we deserved because of our sin upon Himself, resulting in peace for each and everyone who has accepted His sacrifice upon their behalf. It is by His wounds - the suffering's of Jesus - that sinners are forgiven. How can we not desire to accept and serve such a Redeemed? - such a Savior?
Today, let us thank our Heavenly Father for the gift of our Redeemer.
