Sitting In His Lonely Room
He was sitting in his lonely room, wondering where it all went wrong. Feeling an emptiness in his heart wondering where to turn. Despair brought the realization that it's time to be looking for a new start. Into his mind came a memory of once hearing a preacher say: “Look into the Good Book, because God still speaks to us today.” Standing up he walked over to the cupboard where he found the old family Bible. Over the years it had been used to record births, marriages and deaths. Thinking to himself: "Its been a long time since I held this." Felt his hand begin to tremble slightly as he opened the old family heirloom. On the dedication page, one of his Grandparents had written: "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." (Psalm 119:105)
As he flipped through the pages, paused and began to read a verse that spoke to him: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16) These were powerful words of love which made him ponder: "I do not understand, did God really do this for me?" He spoke to no one in particular as a new awareness began to take hold. This brought a desire to continue reading so that he could comprehend more fully, thinking to himself: "I want to know more, a God who loves sinners like me I can serve my whole life through." Reading brought conviction- which then lead to repentance. Repentance brings forgiveness, resulting in peace. While on his knees a joyous prayer come to his lips: "Yes, Jesus I will follow. I feel as if I have been born anew.”
Today, let us thank our God for second chances.
