The Right Church?
Have you ever been in a conversation with someone concerning which is the right church? It may have been when two people came to your door; and you wished that you had not answered it. I was once in the place of believing my church was the only right, and true church, until prayerfully reading the Scriptures for myself. In so doing I came to the realization there is no one denomination that can claim to be the one true church. Scripture teaches the Church of Jesus Christ is made up of Born Again believers who confess Him as their Savior and Lord. We are individual’s from many different denominations and church groups, who have been washed in the Blood of Christ. The conversation Jesus had with Nicodemus, helped me in my understanding of this because - as a religious man - Nicodemus was curious about Jesus as I also was.
“Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” (John 3:1-15.)
Through the leading of The Holy Spirit I came to the life changing understanding that, it is not which church a person belongs, but their relationship with Jesus. For it is only He who saves, not my church or it’s rituals or traditions because, Jesus is The Way, The Truth, and The Life as He explained in the Gospel of John 14:1-7: “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Having a true understanding of these Scriptures brings one to the understanding that church membership will not get you into Heaven. That been said, attending a Church where we worship God with likeminded believers, and where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is taught, is essential for our spiritual growth. Along with multitudes of believers, I came to the understanding that only a genuine faith in the person of Jesus Christ, and His sacrifice on Calvary can bring one into the wonderful experience of Salvation, and the assurance of Eternal Life.
