The Touch Of Jesus
There are many who think that, if there is a God, He does not care about them and their needs. However Scripture shows that there are none who plead to our God that He will not touch with His love and forgiveness. As an example there is the story of the leper of whom people avoided, and defiantly would not touch: “While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.” -Luke 5:12-13.
The plea from the leper: "If you are willing, you can make me clean" has been repeated down through the ages by people who have cried out in anguish to God. Just as the leper was answered by a personal touch from The Lord Jesus, so also will the cries of those who are sincere and repentant - seeking God. To the onlookers in our example, that Jesus touched the man was most unusual because leprosy was contagious, and a leper was deemed untouchable. So it is often in a repentant sinners life, other people will not always understand that a person’s life can be changed by a touch from God. Jesus has promised a clean new life to all that come to Him just as He said to the man with leprosy: "I am willing, be clean” so it is with with you and I when we repent and accept the Atonement of Jesus’s sacrifice on Calvary.
As with the man who had been healed and all new Christians, I experienced a great desire to share with everyone how Jesus had touched, and cleansed me from my sins. The words of Peter became real where he wrote: "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you." - 1 Peter 1:3-4. All who have experienced a touch from Jesus have been granted a living hope, and our inheritance is eternity in His presence. Praise be to His Holy Name.
Today, let us praise The Lord for His loving touch in our lives.
