Jesus Reached Out To A Hurting World
As The Son of God, Jesus of Nazareth reacher out to a hurting world, and the reports of His many healings abound throughout the Gospels: “And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, 18 who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. 19 And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.” - Luke 6:17-19 (ESV)
Without Jesus of Nazareth, many people’s lives would have been different. The widow of Nain would have buried her only son, and gone on to live a life of loneliness and poverty, instead of receiving him back alive: “Soon afterward he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. 12 As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. 13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” 14 Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” 15 And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. 16 Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and “God has visited his people!” 17 And this report about him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.” - Luke 7:11-17 (ESV)
If it had not been for Jesus, Mary and Martha, would have had to survive without their brother Lazarus - who was their only support - instead of witnessing the miracle of seeing him coming out of his tomb alive at the command of Jesus: “Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.” 40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” 41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.” 43 When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” 44 The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.” - John 11:38-44 (ESV)
These wonderful episodes in the life of Jesus were recorded to encourage you and I in our time of need as we remember the words of Jesus: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” - John 14:27. All who have received salvation through Jesus have received the Greatest Healing that there is. All health healings are temporary because, our human life is only temporary. However, Salvation is the Eternal Gift of God’s love for you and I as explained in John 3:16-17: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
Today, let us give thanks to Our Heavenly Father for Jesus.
