Once Lost, Now Forgiven
First John 1: 8-9 carries a sever warning, along with a wonderful promise where it reads: “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
The words from the greatly loved song Amazing Grace often resound in my mind reminding me of my past condition. “I once was lost but now am found, was blind, but now I see." They remind me that I was once a sinner on the broad road of life which leads to eternal death, but now, by God’s Grace I am on the narrow road leading to eternal life. (Matthew 7:13-14)
While on the broad road my slogan was "I'll do it my way," not realizing that my way was leading deeper into darkness. However, Our Heavenly Father, who looks down the corridor's of time could see the hour when I would heed The Spirits voice, (John 16:13) and turning from the way of darkness, would walk towards the light.
Conviction finally came when The Holy Spirit moved upon my heart, helping me to realize that this sinner had a deep need of a Savior. True conviction brings one to the awareness of their need for repentance, and so I fell upon my knees calling out to The Lord, asking forgiveness.
With repentance came a sense of brokenness, an awareness that all my sins had been atoned-for through the shed blood of Jesus on the cross. This was a humbling experience, I had been enlightened with the awareness that Jesus loves me, and that I have been forgiven. Jesus is the only Savior, and is faithful and true, He is ever near to bring comfort in answer to our prayers.
Today, let us praise The Lord for sinners forgiven.
