Jesus Our Eternal Hope
That Jesus resurrection from the grave is an eternal hope for all believing Christians is proclaimed by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:20-22: "But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive." This is the unique teaching of Christianity, giving hope of eternal life beyond physical death.
The cross of Jesus that once stood on Calvary’s hill, was a symbol of tortures death. However, redeemed Christians no longer look upon the cross in that way, we see it as God’s symbol of eternal hope. Consequently, in obedience to the command of Jesus, this Good News of the Gospel is preached far and wide: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20) It's powerful message calls the chosen ones from a life leading to spiritual death - into life eternal.
Along with acknowledging the Atonement that Jesus obtained through the cross and resurrection, we also carry the hope of the return of Jesus, to which some will pray: “Come Lord Jesus come, we await your glorious return.” To each believer, Jesus is the coming King therefore, along with the angels His praise we will forever sing. We acknowledge that as Redeemer, Jesus died for the human race, who now treat His name with disgrace. Notwithstanding, He has shown mercy to humanity, pouring out the grace which enables sinners to turn their life around. Consequently, each believer having experienced mercy and new life will follow Him alone.
What a hope we have of that glorious day when we will see those nail scarred hands. And to see those wondrous eyes that have looked down from the skies. To see Jesus, the Sacrifice Lamb who's blood flowed at Calvary, when for our sins He died. Until that glorious day, His faithful servants we will be, sharing The Gospel with the lost. Yes Lord Jesus, we await your glorious return.
Today, let us give praise to Jesus, our Eternal Hope.
