Listen To My Prayer O’God
King David was a man not only of war, but most importantly a man of prayer to which the Psalms testify. It is a blessing for you and I to read the words of someone who served God, as well as been open and honest when recording his prayers. Psalm 55 records political conflicts in Jerusalem, along with David’s prayers concerning his needs. He begins with: “Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea; hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught”
In verse’s 6-8 David wrote: “I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. I would flee far away and stay in the desert; I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm.” Here we can see a man with so much stress from his problems, wishing that he could just fly away and hide from life.
Then in verse’s 16-17 he shows how, as a man of faith he handles life’s problems: “As for me, I call to God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.” David prays at every opportunity - and prays often - knowing that God hears and answers prayer. This is a great example for you and I to learn how to approach The Throne of Our Heavenly Father, who hears the prayers of His children.
In verse 22 David encourages all to: “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” What a wonderful truth; The Lord will sustain me. Psalm 55 concludes with these words: “But as for me, I trust in you.” David’s trust in God is an example for you and I to hold the same faith in our loving God as he had. In The New Testament, we also have the admonition of Peter to trust in The Lord when he encouraged believers to: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
Today, let us thank The Lord for hearing, and answering prayers.
