Why Did Jesus Come?
Humanity was lost and on its way into a dark eternity. They had turned from the God of the Bible, and contrived their own concepts of God, as Isaiah 53:6 reads; "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned--every one--to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all."
God could have washed His hands with the human race, and left each one of us to carry on our way to eternal destruction. However, the good news is He did not. Instead, Our Heavenly Father promised a Messiah; a Saviour who would; "save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21)
When the time was right, Jesus came into history in order to make a way for you and I to attain eternal life. Through the birth of Jesus, The Eternal Light came into our darkness, and as Isaiah foretold, took upon Himself the iniquity of our sin by His death on the cross. For the normal human mind this spiritual truth is difficult to perceive. Because Jesus understands our humanity, He sent the Holy Spirit to aid in our search for spiritual truth. In John Ch.16, Jesus promised that The Holy Spirit would guide us into all truth. That is; all of God's truth.
Do you know God? Or, as is most people's experience, do you simply know of God? There is a crucial difference. It is the difference between eternal life and eternal death. In John 17: 3, while praying to The Father, Jesus declared, "this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent."
Unless we know Jesus, we cannot truly know The Father. Humanity had gone astray - just like sheep, gone their own way - following after false shepherds. Out of love, God made the way for you and I to come to Him. According to The Bible, that way is only through Jesus Christ - The One True Shepherd.
As already stated, there are many claims to spiritual truth. The question then is how can we know that we are not being deceived? The Bible states that anyone who seriously seeks God’s Truth will find it. The Scriptures have been preserved for us down through the years in spite of numerous attempts to have it destroyed. The God of The Bible, whom Christians know as The Heavenly Father, gave The Scriptures as a record of His revelation of Himself to humanity.
The opening words of the opening chapter has the statement: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." This verse proclaims how our God existed before time as we know it - "In the beginning God." The verse goes on to teach that He is The Creator.
It was through reading The Bible that I came to know God’s Truth. After considering other religious claims I arrived at the place in my life where I accepted that The Scriptures were The Word of God written to lead us in life as stated in Psalm 119:105: "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." Upon studying The Bible I found God’s truth revealed in the person of Jesus Christ who proclaimed in John 14:6: "I am the way and the truth and the life."
I was introduced to The Jesus of Scripture - a Jesus that I had not known. Unlike other religions, Christianly answers the many questions regarding live and offers Salvation from our sin with the promise of eternal life.
Today, let us give thanks that Jesus came among us.
