“That They May Know You.”
The Gospel of John records the prayer of Jesus to The Father: “When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” (John 17:1-3) This statement is very profound because it is from The Son of God. In it Jesus declares that we can have a personal knowledge of the living God here and now, and that eternal life begins with the knowledge of The Father as the only true God. Along with the true understanding of The Father, will come the revelation of who The Son is as revealed in Scripture.
In chapter one of the Gospel of John we read that Jesus existed with the Father in the beginning, and that He was involved in the creation of our world: "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." (Verse 3). When Jesus was born, one of His titles was: "Immanuel (which means "God with us")" (Matthew 1:23). Can you comprehend this truth? God came into creation in order to bring salvation for everyone who, by faith, accepts His sacrifice on their behalf.
Paul writers of Jesus' divinity: "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form" (Colossians 2:9). Jesus was God in the flesh, showing love, and through His sacrificial death offering forgiveness. Our Heavenly Father has made the way for you and I to spend eternity with Him. Our experience of eternity can start here and now by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. When you and I come to faith in Jesus we can call on Him in our need because of His promise: “surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
In His life among us, Jesus reached out a healing hand to all who came to Him with their needs as He proclaimed the love of God. In his letter to the Romans Paul wrote concerning God’s love towards us not only for this life, but also the life to come: “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement“ (Romans 5:8-11)
Today, let us praise our God for His revelation of Himself onto us.
