When A Christian Commits Sin
There has been only One Sinless and Perfect Man in this world, Jesus of Nazareth who was falsely accused and crucified. Scripture encourages you and I to seek after a sinless life, however, even though we may have experienced forgiveness, as long as we are in our human bodies we are in a corrupt temple looking forward to our perfect temple. Grace is given by our Gracious God because we have not reached perfection. With Christ Jesus in our lives we are constantly been led into perfection, although understanding that we are still human and liable to fall at any point.
As a new Christian I was in awe with the understanding that my sins are forgiven and, according to The Bible I had become a child of God. I made every endeavour to live a life without sin encouraged by preachers on the radio proclaiming the message of victorious living. Needless to say, the reality of life soon proved that I was human and prone to fail. So what does one do when we find that once more we need forgiveness, especially after reading versus like 2 Peter 2:22: “Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.” For all who - like me - experience feelings of deep concern and condemnation for their failures, The Holy Spirit leads us to encouraging scriptures such as:
“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.” (1 John 1:5-10) Our wonderful God knows our frames, our strengths and weaknesses, therefore be assured that His Grace is sufficient for all our needs. Therefore the answer to the question concerning a believer committing a sin is that we do not fret, instead we repent, and accept God’s forgiveness, then by His Grace move on.
The Father desires no one to be eternally lost as Luke 19:10 states: “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” When Jesus carried His cross up Calvary's hill, it was God's way of showing His love for lost humanity by giving us the opportunity of choosing spiritual life - or rejecting it. The life and sacrifice of Jesus gives you and I the opportunity of choosing and accepting God’s offer of redemption as stated in John 3:16-18: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” All who turn to Jesus in repentance will receive forgiveness. Praise be to His Holy Name.
Today, let us give thanks to our Gracious God
