All Who Are Weary And Burdened
Depending upon one’s circumstances in life, a person can be living comfortable and leisurely, or on the other hand, through no fault of their own, many find life to be weary and burdensome with little hope of changing. Daily news reports only deepen one’s feeling of weariness, such as reports of covid still taking lives, and Russia killing Ukrainian civilians. On top of that children are been murdered in American schools, where the government is powerless to protect the vulnerable. It is in such circumstances that life’s struggles have brought many to their knees calling upon God for the help that only He can supply.
Because He lived among us, Jesus understands life’s struggles and invites one and all: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28–30)
Finding rest for our souls brings a lifting of life’s burdens. We feel born anew when confessing Jesus as our Lord and Savior. In turn we find a certain peace in our circumstances because, we now have a hope beyond our situation in life having been reconciled onto God. The world is broken and will continue to pile up its own troubles, notwithstanding, when we feel weary and burdened The Bible becomes our go to book where The Spirit speaks to us through The Scriptures. Among the many recorded hopeful promises of Jesus are the wonderful words He speaks as a comforting shepherd, not only to Israel, but also to you and I as recorded in John 10:14-18:
“I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”
Living a God centered life becomes the only life worth living. The once weary and burdened life becomes a satisfied life because, we can always turn to Jesus as our Shepherd and Savior. The Spirit opens the once misunderstood Bible, revealing God’s Word, which brings hope both in this life, and the life to come. In that future life we will witness the eternal worship of our Heavenly Father as described in Revelation 4:10-11:
“the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:
11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.”
Today, let us give praise to our Creator God who is ever near.
