God’s Guiding Light
A person’s experience on a sea voyage can be that of a calm and tranquil one. On the other hand, if the wind and waves get up one’s experience can be that of sailors who have experienced the power of the stormy sea with high wind’s and waves that endanger lives when their boat's are at the mercy of battering storms. It is at such times mariners eagerly scan the horizon for the beam of a lighthouse which serves as a warning of dangerous rocks - or, the guiding light which will guide them to safety.
There is also a lighthouse for you and I when we find ourselves assailed by the storms of life. It is the guiding light that we can rely upon to prevent our lives breaking up on the destructive rocks of life. That guiding light is The Bible, which guides those who seek spiritual truth, it is a firm foundation on which we can build our lives as Psalm 119:105 proclaims: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Jesus, the One of whom Scripture proclaims as The Light of the world, also promised: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” (Matthew 7:24-27)
After many years of struggling in life, not knowing where to turn for spiritual help, I finally heeded advise that lead me to the guiding light of The Bible. It was within its pages that I finally found answers to the fundamental question “why is there so much evil and suffering in this world?” I read how God had created a perfect world until sin entered, bringing with it evil and suffering. God’s answer to sin is Jesus Christ, who came as The Light showing humanity the way back to God: “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Although storms batter our lives, we have a haven in God’s Son who bore our sin on Calvary. Thereby, He offered a new, and eternal life in the presence of God to all who will accept the sacrifice that He offered for our sin. In John 15:13-14, Jesus spoke these incredible words: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.”
Today, let us thank God for His guiding light, leading to eternal life.
