Finding Comfort
I have found reading the Scriptures brings comfort when life becomes challenging. It is in them that we find the invitation to enter God's rest, such as Psalm 62: 5-8: "Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge." The Lord’s offer is open to all who will accept, and by faith, enter His rest where we experience comfort and peace.
Psalm 46 verse 10 instructs; "Be still, and know that I am God." According to this portion of Scripture, there is a way in which we can personally know God. Through knowing Our Heavenly Father, we experience His forgiveness, peace, and love. Unless we learn to turn off the world for a short time, and spend that precious time with our God, we will not experience the peace of His presence in our life.
Where the Bible invites: "Be still, and know that I am God" begs the question how can we know Him? For sinful humanity, to know God in the truest sense, is impossible. However, the Good News is that Our Heavenly Father has made a way; He sent His Son. In John 14:1 Jesus said: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me." According to this verse, to believe in Jesus is to believe in The God of The Bible. It is this truth that separates Christians from the world.
Growing in the knowledge of Jesus, you and I experience the comfort of peace in our lives because, we have the assurance of forgiveness which gives us the guarantee of everlasting life in His presence. This in turn gives us the desire to share our experience with others as Paul wrote: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4) Therefore, to know Jesus, is to know The Father. Knowing God personally brings comfort in this life because, He is the source of all life.
Today, let us thank Our Heavenly Father for His comfort and peace.
