Say No To Ungodliness
In his letter to Titus, Paul gave important instructions on how to say no to ungodliness, thereby living a godly life in an ungodly world; under the guidance of God’s Grace:
“11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” (Titus 2:11-14 NIV)
In spite of the fact that the gift of Grace is offered to humanity, you and I have the responsibility of responding to this gift from our loving God. Although Grace will lead a searching heart to the place of repentance, the outcome will depend upon our response to the offer of this gift. It is through Grace that The Lord will teach you and I the ways of righteousness while living in a broken world. So what is Grace? It is not something that you and I can earn by performing good deeds. No, Grace is the unmerited favor of God which brings us into the knowledge of Jesus as our Savior and Lord.
Second Peter 1:2-4 states: “2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”
Paul explained in Ephesians 2:8-9: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—9 not by works, so that no one can boast."
It is in acknowledging - and accepting - this truth that one receives all we need in order to live a Godly life. What joy there is in knowing, and experiencing the Love of God and, to know that you are accepted as a child of God through the love of Jesus shown by His sacrifice. This is God’s amazing Grace offered to you and I - unworthy though we may be - leading us down the true path of life where we learn to say no to ungodliness, and yes to a new life in Christ Jesus.
Today, let us give thanks for God’s gift of Grace.
