Understanding Reconciliation
When one seeks reconciliation with God, they are desiring to be in right standing with Him. In my early Church years I had no understanding of the Biblical doctrine of reconciliation, only the rituals that my Church required. Once I began prayerfully reading Scripture for myself, my understanding changed. It soon became clear that if I desired to attain reconciliation with God, I had to whole heartedly turn from rituals to The Bible for guidance. It was within its pages that one can read of the spiritual truth that will lead you and I to reconciliation and eternal life. The need for reconciliation between humanity and God goes back to the garden of Eden where Adam and Eve committed the original sin. Thereafter, the fellowship that they had with God was changed not only for them, but also for their descendants.
The Bible teaches that our Heavenly Father made a way for reconciliation through the cross of Jesus as stated in 2 Corinthians 5:18: “God reconciled us to himself through Christ.” It is through reading The Bible that you and I will find that reconciliation with God is accomplished through seeking, and accepting, the new life offered in Christ Jesus because, as sinful people it is impossible to be reconciled to God through our own merits. Man-made religion seeks to reach up to God through their many ceremonies and rituals - be they traditional religions - or more modern and sophisticated philosophies. On the other hand, The Almighty has reached down to us in the person of His Son.
Among the life changing Scriptures that spoke to my searching heart was: “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” (Romans 5:6-11)
Today, let us give praise to our God who offers reconciliation.
