This Temporary Life
There is one fact of life that all can agree on, and that is; our present life is only temporary. Just as we all are born, eventually we all will surely die. But what then? On this most important of points there are numerous opinions. Some say that there is nothing, we simply are no more. Then there is the teaching that we come back in another form in an effort to improve on our previous live until we reach perfection. And the list of theories goes on.
The resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth revealed to the world that there is life beyond our physical one here on earth. He gave a wonderful promise in John 14:1-4: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
The fact of the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. No other faith system can claim that their founder arose bodily from his tomb. He was seen by many witnesses, including over 500 on one occasion. (1 Corinthians 15:5) Faith in the resurrection is unique to Christianity because Jesus was God's Son, therefore, the grave had no power over Him.
We who live with the blessed hope of spending eternity with our Savior, believe that our faith will usher us into the very presence of The Lord when we leave this world, there to see Him face to face. Revelation 22:4 reads: "They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads." What wonderful assurance. Consequently, belief in the bodily resurrection of Jesus brings comfort when we mourn the loss of a loved one whom we know had saving faith in our Redeemer.
As born again believers, we will enter into eternal life sharing the inheritance of all the saints who have both lived, and served our Savior down through the ages. What joy awaits you and I when we will gather with the redeemed before The Throne of our Eternal God, and there, forever worship the One who has called us by His Grace.
Today, let us praise our God for His promise of eternal life.
